BEST WAY DOWNTOWN: Train
BASICS
El Prat is located six miles (10 km) south of the center of Barcelona. The airport travel information desk is open from 9:30 A.M. to 8 P.M. While the airport's website is not quite complete (or in English), it promises to offer much useful information in the future.
TAXI
Taxis are available at the airport 24 hours, fare about 2500 pesetas ($21). Travel time downtown is about 20 minutes.
TRAIN
There's a RENFE train every 30 minutes to Sants Station (central Barcelona) from 6 A.M. to 10:30 P.M. Follow the illustrated signs to the airport train station. Fare is about 300 pesetas ($2.00) and travel time about 16 minutes. The trains are air conditioned and have plenty of luggage space. The RENFE website includes information on train travel throughout Spain.
Taking the train into the city and then a taxi to your hotel should cost about half the price of a taxi from the airport.
RENTAL CAR
Rental cars are available from Atesa, Avis, Europcar, Hertz and other agencies. It is easier and more cost effective, however, to take a taxi to all destinations unless you are traveling outside the city.
